Two Sumerian cuneiform stones (ca. 2500 BC), Apple keyboard (2010), acrylic, wood, glass

The evolution of written language spans millennia, from the earliest cuneiform inscriptions of ancient Mesopotamia to the digital keystrokes of contemporary communication. OMG juxtaposes these two extremes—hand-inscribed clay tablets from 2500 BC and a sleek Apple keyboard from 2010—bridging thousands of years in a single sculptural gesture.
Enclosed in a glass case, the ancient cuneiform stones rest on top of each other, evoking both stability and fragility. Beneath them, an Apple keyboard juts out from the pedestal, serving as both a literal and metaphorical foundation. The work reflects on the transformation of language: from slow, deliberate inscriptions to instantaneous digital shorthand—where “OMG” itself becomes emblematic of the shift in how we encode and interpret meaning.
By placing these objects in dialogue, OMG highlights the tension between permanence and impermanence, materiality and virtuality, and the ways in which writing, technology, and human cognition continue to evolve.
